This Should Be A Golden Age For Weirdness Like That
-
This article about the diminished state of roadside attractions focuses on Mitchell, South Dakota, which has its Corn Palace, a tourist attraction that just doesn't attract as many tourists anymore. People don't seem to care to go out of their way to see a small, old arena covered with corn husks, or a large ball of twine, or a museum dedicated to something weird. What a shame. You'd think that in the Internet age, when places like that can be exposed more easily, that you'd have hordes of "ironic" humor-inclined hipsters hitting the road to have their pictures taken at these places.
