Can We Go To Legoland Instead?
-
A private boy's school in San Francisco sent its second-graders on a field trip to the gay Castro District. That alone has some parents upset, but sending them to a memorial or to historic spots is benign when measured against the fact that the Castro happens to have an abundance of sex shops with graphic displays in the windows, not to mention some folks who enjoy letting their freak flags fly as they show off on the sidewalk. Is that an appropriate thing to show second graders? Thinking back to second grade, I don't think any of us knew what "gay" was, specifically, and wouldn't have known what sex toys were for if we'd seen them. We'd have probably just complained that the field trip was boring and that we'd rather go to a chocolate factory or something cool like that. (San Francisco Chronicle)
