Is There A Law Against Pure Creepiness?
-
What do you do in a case like this? A 30-something photographer allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, aided by his then-fiancee. Charges were brought. But now, three years later, they've gotten married. The victim's refusing to cooperate. Now, the statutory rape allegations are still in effect, and they very well may have happened, but the victim won't testify. If you're the prosecutor, do you proceed against the guy? They've dropped charges against the fiancee already. And the interesting quirk in the law is that the victim CAN be forced to testify against her now-spouse, but the prosecution has to determine whether it's worth the trouble of giving the jury the impression you're "beating up" on the victim, even if you suspect that the guy is a sleazeball and is taking advantage of the girl.
