Do people who spend years in jail and then get exonerated deserve compensation from the state? Of course. But they're often getting nothing. It's not because the states don't WANT to make things right, it's that the states claim they don't have any money. See, if YOU owed someone money and said you couldn't pay it, you'd end up getting sued and thrown into bankruptcy. With states, they just shrug and move on. And with DNA testing, there are more and more of these cases. (ABC News)
