Thought We Were Past That By Now

The cadet who came out as a lesbian last year and left West Point is now desirous of a return to the academy, but while the administration there seems quite amenable to having her come back, they've rejected her application. Why? Because Don't Ask, Don't Tell is still technically in effect, so they can't allow her back. When it's gone, they say, she can come back. Which raises the question: Why ISN'T it gone? Wasn't it repealed? Well, yes, but until the President, Secretary of Defene, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff sign off on it and a 60-day waiting period passes, it won't be truly gone. So what's the holdup? (AP via ABC News)
