If You're An Also-Ran At Being An Also-Ran, Is That Also-Ran-Squared?

Canada's Conservative Party and Prime Minister Stephen Harper held onto power with a majority in the election Monday, but the interesting thing is that the Liberals and their leader Michael Ignatieff dropped for the first time in a federal election to third place, with the New Democratic Party, historically the third party, in second place. The big change was in the Maritimes, where the Tories picked up traditionally Liberal ridings. And the Bloc Quebecois got its ass kicked by the NDP in Quebec. So the big story here isn't the winner, who was expected to win, but that the losers changed slots. (The Globe and Mail)
