Killebrew, Splitorff... Not A Good Couple Of Weeks For The Old Ballplayers
-
For the last couple of years, Kansas City Royals TV analyst and former pitcher Paul Splitorff has had a raspy voice and his facial expression seemed off, and when he was asked, he said he had a throat infection. Sadly, it's a lot worse than that: He has oral cancer and melanoma and some reports say it's terminal. Splitorff pitched his entire career in K.C., retiring in 1984, the year before they won the World Series. Bad timing. His teammate Dan Quisenberry, the closer, died young of brain cancer. Not exactly a cursed team, but it's sad what's happened to them anyway. (Kansas City Star)
