And We Complain About Skunks And Raccoons
-
Rural Australia's desert is being overrun with over a million feral camels, causing a million dollars' (Australian) damage every year. They choke off the water supply (by being very thirsty, and then getting mired in waterholes and dying, fouling the water and destroying the waterhole. And they can't be eliminated, so the best humans can do is to control the camel population, which, in remote locations where it's impossible to cart the bodies back, means shooting to waste -- killing them, and then leaving them in place to decompose. Now, that's a tourist attraction. (Discovery News via MSNBC)
