I know that the Harold Camping thing is pretty played out, but it was still painful and remarkable to watch that transit worker who spent $140,000 on ads about Judgment Day stand there in Times Square and be humiliated when the Rapture didn't happen. He now says he's sure it WILL happen sometime this year, and other believers are consoling themselves that way, but, you know what's really sad? That they WANTED it to happen. They were looking FORWARD to it, because it would end their misery here on Earth. Yes, they were stupid to believe, and yes, they've been had, and, yes, it's amusing on some level to see them squirm, but it's also intensely sad to know why they wanted to believe it.
