Now, if the grade crossing had warning bells and flashing lights, you can understand why the railroad would bill a woman whose car was hit by a train. After all, she would have had to drive around barriers to be on the tracks. But when there are no lights, no bells, nothing but reliance on the train sounding its horn... not so sure. In this case, the woman says she didn't hear the horn as she crossed the tracks, but she and her daughter, although injured, survived. The railroad says she should have heard the horn, and is sending her a bill for damage to the train. Fair or not? (Hartford Courant; Thanks to Ed Reynolds at WTIC/Hartford for the link)
