Whatever They Do, The Labels Still Won't Make Sense

The FDA has updated its sunscreen rules, and the effect is that the manufacturers won't be able to claim the kind of protection they do now unless they can prove it. "Broad spectrum" will require a certain level of UVA and UVB protection. "Waterproof" will no longer be allowed, but "water resistant" will if it can be proven. Why wasn't this the case before? And why don't they officially say that anything over SPF 50 is bogus? (New York Times)
