Don't Give The People What They Want
-
Because of a clause triggered by Netflix' popularity, Sony movies have been pulled from Netflix Streaming. The situation is this: Netflix Streaming gets Sony movies through a deal with Starz. Sony let Starz do this with the restriction that as soon as the number of Netflix subscribers hit a certain figure, the deal would be off. In other words, if the public showed that it wants the movies, they'd pull the movies. Obviously, they want more money. But pulling the movies just drives people who want them to find other ways to get them, and some of those might not be legal. Why they couldn't put some provisions into place to cover this and keep the movies online, I don't know. (Los Angeles Times)
