We Always Have To Do Things The Hard Way, Don't We?
-
L.A.'s coming "Carmageddon" -- the closing of the 405 freeway in West L.A. over the weekend, sure to cause massive problems -- could have been minimized with an alternative plan that would have built the new overpass first before demolishing the old one, but the plan fell through. Why? Because the residents of the adjacent neighborhood put up a fuss over the way it would look and insisted on extensive environmental reviews to hold it up. Needing to move forward, the government threw up its hands and said, okay, then, we'll do it the long way. So because of the stalling tactics, we're looking at region-wide traffic tie-ups.
