Since When Is Your Apartment A Hotel?
-
A woman who used the popular Airbnb website to rent her apartment in San Francisco for someone to use on a trip says that the tenant ransacked and trashed her place. It's become a controversy among the people who use the service to get cheap accomodations on the road. I'm amazed that anyone would allow short-term leasing of their homes for strangers, even through a reputable site like that, because the potential for disaster is so high and the returns so limited. (It's not even legal in many places, and if you don't own your place, your own lease might prohibit temporary sublets) Sure, this is an isolated incident as far as we know, but, geez, would you let someone you don't really, really know use your place for a few days?
