Buses Don't Swallow Up Billions In Tax Dollars, Either
-
Part of the stimulus was spending on fancy high-speed train service, but the current trains have encountered stiff competition from an unexpected source: low-cost buses. They appeal to young riders with a) cheap fares and b) curbside pick-up and drop-off. The latter is because running into and out of bus stations is expensive and people think they're dangerous and creepy. Usually, the clientele on buses is also dangerous and creepy, but low fares -- and Wi-Fi -- beat very high fares and no Wi-Fi on the trains anytime, unless you're pressed for time. (Hartford Courant)
