Brian Scalabrine Is Not On The List, Either

Look! Newspapers are no different from radio stations desperate to get calls! The L.A. Times has this piece suggesting the top athletes of all time in terms of sheer athletic ability, four present and four former. For current players, Tony Gonzalez beats out LeBron James, Sidney Crosby, and Jose Reyes, and for the past, Jim Thorpe beats Wilt Chamberlain, Jim Brown, and Babe Didrikson. The idea is that they're good at whatever they do (as opposed to, say, Michael Jordan, who sucked at baseball and golf). But how can we even know how good Jim Thorpe was when there's nobody alive who saw him at his peak? And how do we disqualify Jordan but give thumbs up to Gonzalez or LeBron or Crosby or Reyes, none of whom we've seen do anything but their own sports? (Los Angeles Times)
