Purity Of Essence
-
The question that arises from the possible challenge Rep. Allen West (R-FL) faces from his Tea Party constituents is this: Can any politician even hint at compromise or working with members of the "opposition" and survive? The Tea Partiers are upset that West voted to raise the debt ceiling, so upset that they're insisting that they'll not vote for or support him any longer. Is not being "pure" fatal? Or is being someone who both the left and the extreme right are fighting actually a good thing, because it shows he's independent ("if all the fringies hates him, he must be doing something right")?
