They're Not Working For You Anymore. They Never Really Were

California has a law preventing former legislators from becoming lobbyists... for one year. And then they can go lobby their former colleagues with impunity. But is that fair? Should they trade on their former elective office on behalf of paying clients? Should the current legislators receive them in their new lobbying capacity? Why aren't we just saying that if you become an elected official, you're not going to be able to exploit that in a lobbying capacity, period? (Sacramento Bee)
