Not As Rare As A Cubs Pennant, But Almost

Imagine an event that happens very rarely, and you're really, really into it. That's what astronomers are feeling right now as they're getting a look at a supernova, the closest in four decades. They're losing sleep staring at it, because they may never get a better look at one of these. This is an exploding star about 21 million light years away, and it happened a long, long, long, LONG time ago (in a galaxy far, far away, and, no, I couldn't resist).
