Say goodbye to the old-fashioned, coin-operated parking meter. Even New York City's taking them down, replacing them with those multi-spot stations where you go up and punch in the number of your slot and then stand there confused because you can't tell what to do and which buttons to push. On the bright side, those central boxes often take credit cards, so no more searching for quarters. On the dark side, that makes charging you more for parking very easy indeed. (New York Times)
