How About The Separation Of Church And Recess?
-
In Texas, a federal court ruled that elementary school students have a First Amendment right to hand classmates candy cane pens with religious messages. Schools can't block the kids from proselytizing. I suppose that if a classmate did that to me, I'd just ignore it and go about my business, but it's surprising that schools can't assert themselves over kids during school hours or at school functions. In another part of the case, though, the school tried to block kids from writing "Merry Christmas" on cards sent to troops overseas, which seems a little excessive, so there's that. And the principals were given immunity from personal liability, for what that's worth. Anyway, religion, schools, courts, you know the topic drill. (KDAF-TV/Dallas)
