Almost Got Away With It, Too
-
Remember that woman in Knoxville who allegedly embezzled from her employers and threw a massive Sweet 15 party for her daughter (that she wanted to get onto TV) and lived high on the hog? She admitted she stole $4.5 million, but prosecutors tell the court she's lying and really stole over $6 million. Meanwhile, the court records show that she was pretty sophisticated in her scam, allegedly setting things up to sock away cash and prizes for a getaway, filling duffle bags with "a Valentino bag, a large Burberry bag, a small Fendi purse three Prada purses... four Louis Vuitton, one Gucci, four Dior and four (more) Valentino (purses), eighteen pairs of shoes, and a pair of Dior sunglasses," plus her computer with accounting software, jewelry (including a $20,000 diamond ring from Tiffany and $70,000 wedding rings), and cameras. She then arranged approval to be away from home (she was wearing an ankle monitor under house arrest); by the time they realized she wasn't coming back, she made it to Arizona. This story screams out for a movie treatment. (Knoxville News-Sentinel; Thanks to Frank Murphy at WWST (Star 102.1)/Knoxville for the link)
