Can't We Just Take The Body And Stick It In Our Freezer For A While?
-
In Chicago, if you die and your family can't afford to bury you right away, the new policy will be that they'll donate your body to science. If you haven't been claimed and buried within two weeks, it's medical cadaver city for you. The problem isn't just that two weeks isn't much, it's that Cook County has been plagued by mistakes in the coroner's office. Maryland does the same thing, and they admit that more people in this economy can't afford to immediately bury their loved ones, and that sometimes it takes a while to find the next of kin, but they reason that, well, science needs 'em, so why not. Why not? Well, your family might object. If you're dead, on the other hand, it's not going to matter to you much. (Chicago Sun-Times; Thanks to Jeff Katz at WXKS (Talk 1200)/Boston for the link)
