The House Always Wins
-
A couple played the penny slots at a casino in Colorado and hit the jackpot. But instead of the $31,000 the machine said they won, this state has decided they're only going to get 80 cents. That's because the casino claims the machine malfunctioned. But that doesn't seem fair. After all, if you're playing a slot machine and it says you won something, couldn't the casino just always claim that it was a malfunction? And if malfunctions are that uncommon, why can't they just pay it off as a goodwill gesture? Besides, if the machine malfunctioned in the other direction and gave players losing hands when they shouldn't have, I'm pretty sure that the casino wouldn't be voluntarily refunding the money.
