It's Spelled 'Raymond Luxury Yacht' But It's Pronounced 'Throat Warbler Mangrove'

How do you say "Casa Grande" as in Casa Grande, Arizona? If you ask people who live there, you'll get two different pronunciations. One is the way that you would pronounce it in Spanish, and the other is the way you would pronounce it if you've never heard Spanish in your life. You hear both around town, and the people who speak it in one way seem to think that the other people are completely wrong. I live near the San Pedro section of Los Angeles, and the people there have two pronunciations for their own town, too. (The generally accepted version, by the way, is san PEE-dro, despite the fact that a large number of native Spanish-speaking people live in the area) Every part of the world has towns and neighborhoods where the pronunciation by locals doesn't match the pronunciation by people from elsewhere. What are yours? (New York Times)
