Bummer. I Used To Like That Borders

It's one thing if you're shopping district has problems because the economy has hurt local stores, and it's another thing when the only reason you have a lot of vacancies is because the national chains that had stores along the main road have gone under. Back when I worked in Pasadena, I used to go to lunch on South Lake Ave., and the strip had all the upscale chain stores you would want. But what made it successful back then makes it tempting now, because Borders, Smith and Hawken, and other chains have gone out of business. Maybe keeping it local isn't such a bad idea after all.
