The South's answer to White Castle is Krystal, which does the same slider thing. And they're prettying themselves up for a sale, but in the meantime, they're planning to expand. A lot. They're looking at doubling the number of Krystal restaurants in five years, including little "storefront" versions. They'll be everywhere in the Southeast. Now, you can take this one two ways, one being regional fast-food joints that help define your area (examples: Culver's, In-N-Out, Whataburger), and the other being the mystery of, when there are so many better alternatives, some places with less-than-great food manage to survive and prosper. I think it's just that under certain circumstances (say, when you're drunk and it's 3 am), you'll crave a slider more than an actual good burger.
