If It Doesn't Fit, Pay For It
-
A college student is upset that she was forced to buy a second seat on a Southwest flight because she is a "person of size." She said it was humiliating. The airline refunded the money, saying that it misapplied the rule in her case, but it raises the same issues we've discussed here before: If someone doesn't fit in one seat, is it a violation of their rights to require them to buy another seat? Yes, it's unpleasant, and yes, everyone wishes the seats were bigger and the legroom greater, but as it stands now, if you get stuck next to a massive passenger, YOUR rights are being violated.
