Does Hello Kitty Even Have A Gender?
-
A neighborhood Halloween party in Salt Lake City became controversial when the Mormon church that was sponsoring the gathering for neighborhood kids issued an edict that children attending the party would not be allowed to wear cross–gender costumes. I wasn't aware that this was a problem they needed to address, but they did. I would think that boys that age would be less likely to show up in a girls' costume then girls would be likely to show up dressed as male characters. But isn't that the parents' responsibility? Why is this even an issue? On the other hand, if the church is sponsoring your neighborhood gathering, they're going to do what they want. maybe somebody other than the church should sponsor the event (I know, Salt Lake City, everything's sponsored by the church).
