Protecting The Public Against The Harmless
-
New York City's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene -- "Mental Hygiene"? -- is on the warpath against helth code violations, and caught up in that net is the famed Algonquin hotel, which, for generations, has had a free-roaming cat in the lobby. It's part of the hotel's legend. And it's also going to be a thing of the past, because the health department insists that the cat can't roam into potential food serving and preparation areas. So the cat's been leashed. That's after decades of no harm. And millions of homes where cats wander through kitchens and don't cause illness. (New York Post)
