The couple moved out of the house, and, later, the wife's mother also moved out. That was nine-and-a-half years ago. The cable company never stopped taking payments out of mom's account. For all that time, they kept doing direct debits, first $40 a month, then $60. That adds up. And it took the woman going to the local paper before the cable company agreed to refund the money (no interest, though). Let this be a lesson to all: Don't let anyone direct-debit payments like that. They make it very hard to cancel. Also, maybe you should check your bank statements. (Orange County Register)
