Jail Sentences Don't Linger That Long
-
What happens when you're honest about your past? If you're a teacher and your pas includes prostitution, you get fired, which, you'll recall, happened to the "Hooker Teacher," the woman who wrote a Huffington Post piece about sex workers and the ban of escort ads from Craigslist. She got fried by the New York Post, the Mayor personally saw to it that she was fired, and now she can't get work. I understand that you don't want a former prostitute teaching kids, but, then again, if someone does something at one stage of her life that's problematic -- if she sells her body, or does heroin, or something else that isn't harming others -- how long does she have to pay? Should that choice at, say, 18 or 19 destroy the rest of her life? Is there no rehabilitation? And does she have to show shame about it if she doesn't feel shame? (AOL Jobs)
