That's So Last Week
-
Nobody's arguing that Joseph Kony, the subject of that viral video that's been raging throughout the Net for the last few weeks, is anything but a bad man. But the organization that launched the viral campaign has come under question for the whole thing, including obscuring the fact that Kony's been gone from Uganda for 5 years and that some of the "facts" in the video are disputed. More importantly, however, the organization's finances have been challenged, and you've seen how they won't allow an outside audit. Now, the Better Business Bureau is warning that the group, Invisible Children, has ignored its requests for a charitable review for six years. The Invisible Children people say, well, the BBB review is voluntary, and they don't have to volunteer. But if they don't, doesn't that, you know, raise questions about who these people are and what they do with donations? Interesting, though, how many people jumped on the bandwagon without the slightest hesitation or skepticism. (WPXI-TV/Pittsburgh)
