At Least There's Always Mom's Basement

The Philadelphia Inquirer's annual Pulitzer-bait series this year is about how new college graduates face a bad job market and how frustrating it is. Why, they got a college degree -- they're OWED a good job in the field of their choice. But what's not in here is that as the world changed, the education you get in college didn't. And whereas in the past you could do a major like Philosophy or Political Science (MY major!) and manage to get work somehow, now you're not getting any training in the kinds of jobs that remain in the U.S. economy. It sucks, but since you AREN'T owed a living, you have to be flexible. And you have to realize that amassing a huge amount of student loan debt is no longer a good idea for a lot of people. Maybe not everyone SHOULD go to college. (Philadelphia Inquirer)
