Those Were The Days

Dead: Giorgio Chinaglia, the most colorful player on the most colorful soccer team of the '70s, the New York Cosmos. Playing alongside Pele and Franz Beckenbauer, he was the scoring machine, the self-proclaimed "finisher" on a very expensive team full of stars that drew for each game more than other teams in the league would draw for five or six home dates. I got to see many of those games, with over 70,000 people filling Giants Stadium to see the circus. In recent years, he hosted a show on Sirius XM and lived in Florida after he got ensnared in a controversy over an attempt, allegedly with some organized crime figures, to buy his old Italian team Lazio. Back in the day, he was pretty awesome. (Oh, yeah, pronounce it kin-AHL-yah) (AP via Newark Star-Ledger)
