Nobody Loves Getting Lectured. Everybody Loves A Triumph-Over-Adversity Story. Not Hard To Understand
-
People are criticizing "The Blind Side" for showing a poor uneductaed black kid "saved" by white people, and praising the fictional "Precious" for showing a gritty, disturbing story of a black girl's brutal life. But the people saying all this are... white. Black critics and audiences love "The Blind Side" for being uplifting and aren't happy with "Precious" because of its unrelenting degradation and horror. And the black critics think the white critics are being condescending and patronizing. There's one other thing: Yes, "The Blind Side" is telling a story about a rich white couple sweeping in to save a helpless black child become a successful pro football star, but it IS true. And, you know, maybe both movies are good and maybe both are worth seeing.
