Harold Camping Can Relate

One of the key scientists sounding the global warming alarm has been James Lovelock, and he's been one of the most extreme, his "Gaia" theory positing that billions will die before the end of the century and the only survivors will huddle in the Arctic. He was a primary influence on Al Gore and atop all the lists of most prominent environmental scientists. Now, at 92, he's admitting that he was being "alarmist" and "extrapolating too far," and now says that global warming is going a lot, lot, LOT slower than he projected. "We were supposed to be halfway toward a frying world now," he says, and you can imagine he's a little disappointed that it didn't happen. So, now one of the most influential global warming proponents is coming close to being a skeptic. Does this affect how you see the issue? And why do so many people listen to and put total, unquestioning faith in the alarmist stuff in the first place? (MSNBC)
