Cross At The Green, Not In Between. Oh, Yeah, Look Up, Too
-
Fort Lee, NJ is addressing a serious problem that, when it shows up in the papers, seems frivolous: They're amping up their ticketing of jaywalkers, especially those who text while walking. And that makes funny headlines and images of people walking into open manholes while texting, but people are getting hit by cars when their heads are buried in their phones and they step into traffic without looking. It may seem overdramatic to say this is a matter of life and death, but in a real sense, it is. Speaking of which, click here for a classic PSA with the New York slogan "Cross at the Green, Not in Between," and if the music in the background is familiar, it's because it's the music from the other classic PSA "Don't Cross the Street in the Middle, in the Middle, in the Middle, in the Middle, in the Middle of the Block," as covered much later by They Might Be Giants. Almost 50 years after being subjected to that song every day on TV, I still can't erase it from my mind. (ABC News)
