Hangnail? Warm Up The MRI Machine And Start Writing Up The Bill
-
This column raises the topic of whether doctors should stop doing costly medical tests when there's little chance the tests will do anything for the patient. It can be an MRI for short-term back pain, or pap smears for women who are younger than a certain age, or anything where the cost of the test might outweigh the possibility of finding something. And I bet everyone can agree to eliminate tests until it's YOUR health on the line. Then, you'll be all "let the insurance company pay for it." But that's why premiums are out of control.
