Everybody Forgets It's The Taxpayers' Money
-
In the "Wait, can they do that?" category, it's a little complicated, but Santa Clara County had dedicated $30 million in tax funds as part of the package to build the 49ers a new stadium, and now, they've just taken the money away, saying that they have better uses for the money than a football palace. Now, here's the thing -- that money was designated for the stadium in a vote by the public. A change in the state law about redevelopment agencies, occasioned by a court ruling, gave the county the opening to do this. But if the public designated the funds, should the government just take the money for something else, or should it properly give the money back to the public? (San Jose Mercury News)
