The Supreme Court didn't just rule on the Arizona immigration law Monday; It also declined to revisit Citizen's United, reversing a Montana court that had refused to follow that case in another ruling. I'd talk about it in terms of this: I don't think most people really understand the basis for that original decision in the first place. All anyone knows are the "talking points" -- corporations bad, spending on elections bad. They never talk about how unions also benefited from the ruling, or really examine whether campaign ads have the same effect today that they did in, say, 1964 (when the most effective ad only aired once (September 7, 1964, the legendary "daisy" ad)). This is a far more complex discussion than most people think. (New York Times)
