You know those systems some cars have that tell you when you're drifting from your lane? Those "lane departure" systems, a new study suggests, might increase crashes, not prevent them. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which commissioned the study, can't explain it. They think that maybe users shut the alarms off, or ignore them because they're too frequent. I wonder, though, if it's that our instincts are safer than to leave it to the car to decide whether you need to correct course. Wait... I see how people drive. That can't be it. (USA Today)
