A Moment Of Silence, Please, Patches Pals
-
Dead: Chris Wedes, much, much better known to generations of Seattle children as TV clown J.P. Patches. He went to Seattle from Minneapolis in 1958 and ruled local kids' TV through 1981, then kept performing at live events for years. And he was one of a literally dying breed, the local live kiddie show host; I doubt that could ever come back, because it's a different era and kids, and entertainment, have changed, but as someone who grew up with local 1960s and early 1970s kiddie shows, I miss those days. The topic is, of course, YOUR local market's kiddie show legends. Chances are great that your audience has fond, fond memories of Sandy Becker, Wee Willie Webber, Rex Trailer, the Old Rebel, Ray Rayner, Sheriff John, Wallace and Ladmo (and Gerald - boo!), Skipper Chuck, or countless others.
