It's For Our... Er, YOUR Own Good

Folks in South L.A., which is a less affluent area than most in the region, were told to be excited that the Space Shuttle Endeavour would be traveling through its streets in its journey from LAX to its new home at the California Science Center over by the Coliseum and USC. They were shocked, however, to discover that because of the size of the shuttle, the city would be cutting down 400 trees on the route. The locals are understandably upset. When your neighborhood is about to lose its only vegetation and the officials are telling you that you should be happy about it... wow. (Los Angeles Times)
