Maybe it's me, but does it seem like a good idea to let passengers on a commuter train disembark on the track side and walk across other tracks without a signal or barriers to stop them if a train's coming? Still, the train that nearly hit several passengers disembarking from a Caltrain train in the Bay Area probably should have slowed down and, you know, stopped, but it didn't until it had passed that station. And one of the engineers on that train reportedly tested positive for pot. So plenty of blame to pass around for the near-miss. And I still have to think that there's an inherent safety problem here with people getting off the train on the side where other trains will pass by. (San Jose Mercury News)
