Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word
-
Australian radio talker Alan Jones is in hot water for a comment -- made at a private event but recorded and exposed by a reporter -- about the prime minister's dead father, and he apologized, but a lot of people think his apology was insincere. And that's a topic that's more universal and lasting than what he said about the prime minister's father: When do you accept an apology? When you know someone's apologizing with a gun to their head, is it an apology at all? Do you accept it just to get it over with? And should we all agree that the "I'm sorry if you were offended" thing isn't an apology at all? (Sydney Morning Herald)
