Sometimes You Gotta Be Insubordinate
-
The BBC itself is airing a documentary alleging that its own boss may have been part of the network's coverup of Jimmy Savile's pedophilia, shutting down an expose that "Newsnight" was preparing that would have reported on the beloved, eccentric DJ and TV star's penchant for abusing young girls. The investigation includes allegations that the BBC's Director-General George Entwistle, who just took that position a month ago, was worried that if they ran the initial piece, they'd "have to change the Christmas schedules" because they'd planned tributes to Savile. There's more, but the topics here are twofold, one being the network putting the kibosh on reporting on its own star (and then allowing another report that implicates their own bosses in the coverup), and another being the extent to which celebrities seem to get a nod and a wink from producers and network brass over their misbehavior -- you have to pull a Charlie Sheen and jeopardize production before getting in real trouble, and even then, there'll be someone else to hire you.
