They Wouldn't Want My Used Shoes. Seriously, They're Better Off Buried
-
You recycle paper, glass, and plastic. You may recycle electronic stuff. How about your shoes. That's the business one company is in, and the idea is to send the shoes to places in the world where they need footwear. You get a huge box, fill it with your used shoes, slap a pre-paid label on it (they pay the shipping), and that's it. But they're a for-profit operation. They send the shoes overseas, but they end up being resold in open-air markets by local vendors. You get nothing, not even a tax deduction, so... other than not wasting and not putting your shoes in a local landfill, what's in it for you? (KYW-TV/Philadelphia)
