Kansas City's Not That Long A Drive, You Know
-
Now that the Sacramento-Seattle situation is moving forward (not that it's over), David Stern is starting to scout the rest of the league for cities to extort... er, to offer suggestions for future development. He's telling Minneapolis that the league will grant it an All-Star Game... if it renovates Target Center. He didn't threaten to move, but the subtext is that the city has to come up with a plan. That plan almost always includes tax money. It's nice that he's spending the public's money, but do they need to renovate the place? It needs some work, but it's not that bad. Meanwhile, there's another, nicer arena not too far away in St. Paul. Why can't they just use that? Oh, that's right: they wouldn't get all the luxury box money because the hockey team was there first. All the rich guys want their own playpens. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)
