Add FedEx to the list of companies that can't stand even the slightest heat: It was a sponsor of a Memphis conference on business startups until it discovered that Damian Echols of the West Memphis Three was to speak, whereupon it yanked its sponsorship, saying it "did not want to associate the name or the brand with someone so polarizing in Memphis." Okay, but not wanting to associate with a guy who's widely considered to have been railroaded into prison -- and nearly executed -- for a crime he didn't commit? It's their prerogative, but they could have taken a stronger stand here. It's not like anyone would stop using them either way. (WREG-TV/Memphis)
